David K. Schunk

President & CEO, Volunteers of America Colorado

Since late 2018, Mr. Schunk has served as President and CEO of Volunteers of America Colorado, a large and nationally oriented, nonprofit, faith-based organization dedicated to helping those in need live healthy, safe and productive lives. Since 1896, Volunteers of America has supported and empowered America’s most vulnerable groups, including the frail elderly, people with disabilities, at-risk youth, homeless individuals, veterans, and women and their children.  From 2011 to 2018, Mr. Schunk served as CFO for the Denver Rescue Mission (“DRM”), a large regionally oriented, nonprofit, faith-based human services organization.

Prior to DRM, and spanning over 30 years, he has served in a variety of C-level and senior management positions at large companies such as IHS Markit, Intelligent Electronics, Verio/NTT, GE Technology Services and StorageTek. As well, during this time, he has also founded and/or profitably grown small businesses in IT, manufacturing, event services and private equity.  Earlier in his career, Mr. Schunk spent time in banking and at Shell Oil Company.

Away from the office, Mr. Schunk serves or has served on several ministry, business and community boards, including Volunteers of America Colorado, Save Our Youth, Heritage Works, Commerce Bank Advisory Board, DRM, and has participated in the University of Denver’s Alumni Mentor Program for over 20 years. He also recently completed his Christian Nonprofit Leadership Credential (CCNL).  He previously was President of the Denver Business Association and the Downtown Toastmasters. Schunk holds his MBA from the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business. His Bachelors of Science is in Finance from the University of Colorado.  He loves the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, backpacking, skiing, tennis, biking and golf.  He has been married for 35 years to Kathy and they enjoy three children, Natalie (31), Eric (28) and Kelly (25).
