Congratulations and thank you to everyone who contributed in making the 2017 Western Pathways Conference in Denver a success.

Over 350+ people spoke at and attended the conference's events, exploring educational options and workforce development opportunities. Colorado Business Roundtable was honored to be a part of helping everyone make the event possible. Thanks again to everyone that made this possible.

Opening up educational options and partnering closer with employers to teach the skills needed for modern job seems to be the answer. From corporate training initiatives, to apprenticeships, to nimble niche-based entrepreneurial training courses, the Western Pathways Conference explored these newer concepts that are beginning to show success.

"Today, Colorado ends the discriminatory funding practices that are hurting kids across our state," said Scott Laband, President of Colorado Succeeds, a non-partisan business coalition focused on education issues.

"This is a historic victory for the 43,000 charter school students who have been told for far too long that they are worth less than their peers simply because of the type of school they attend."

Economic Development
Colorado companies Meadowlark Optics, Project C.U.R.E. and VAIREX air systems were announced today as the three winners of the 2017 Governor's Award for Excellence in Exporting for their contributions to the Colorado economy through international trade.
 
"Meadowlark, Project C.U.R.E. and VAIREX are shining examples of how exporting can help expand businesses, increase profits, and grow Colorado's economy," said Governor John Hickenlooper. "From fuel cells to polarization products to medical supplies, exporting provides access to 95 percent of the world market outside our borders. We are honored to recognize these companies for their commitment and wish them continued success."

 2017 marks the launch of Best for Colorado, a program designed to equip and celebrate ALL companies in Colorado who use their business as a force for good - creating more high quality jobs, stronger communities and a healthier environment for our state. The program is a cross-sector partnership between B LabColorado Certified B Corporations, more than 30 local organizations include the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT).

President Trump signed a 2017 appropriations measure that funds government operations through  September 30 , the end of the current fiscal year. The measure includes $19.653 billion for NASA, a $368 million increase over 2016 and $628 million more than proposed for 2017 by President Obama. 

Citizens for Space Exploration will be heading back to Washington, D.C. for the 26th time. Our trip this year will take place May 23-26. Please join us as we  meet with members and staff of the 185th Congress to discuss the benefits of human space exploration.

The  American Council of Engineering Companies'  annual Engineering Excellence Awards competition recognized  CH2M  for two projects that earned a National Recognition Award, a prestigious distinction honoring projects that demonstrate an exceptional degree of innovation, complexity, achievement and value. Projects that won at state-level EEA competitions were eligible for an ACEC 2017 National Recognition Award.

The Parker Area Chamber of Commerce received three Colorado State Chamber Awards at the 2017 State Chamber Conference. 

Each year the Colorado Chamber of Commerce Executives (CCCE) in partnership with the Colorado State Chamber (CACI) hosts their annual state chamber conference for all chambers of commerce in Colorado. On May 4, 2017, the Parker Area Chamber of Commerce was awarded with three Colorado state chamber awards.

The 2017 Best-of- the-Best Colorado state chamber awards presented to the Parker Area Chamber of Commerce include:

- Communications Award
- Special Achievement Award
- Colorado Chamber CEO of the Year Award

Immigration Policy

J oin the Colorado Business Roundtable and the South Metro Chamber of Commerce as we recognize the incredible contributions that immigrants make every day in Colorado.
 
Keynote speaker: Ali Noorani, Executive Director of the National Immigration Forum and author of the newly released book, There Goes the Neighborhood: How Communities Overcome Prejudice and Meet the Challenge of American Immigration.
 
Smart Regulation
The Regulation Freedom Amendment would end "regulation without representation" by permanently requiring that major new Federal regulations be approved by Congress.

The Amendment would curb the power of Washington regulators to re-write the meaning of laws without the consent of Congress. 

The Amendment has been endorsed by a bipartisan group of more than 1,000 State Legislators, 7 Governors, and former Governors, including Mike Pence. 

"As  we mark  Infrastructure Week 2017 , it's clear that our nation's infrastructure, once the envy of the world, is suffering from years of underinvestment. Federal investment in transportation and water infrastructure has dropped by half since the mid-1960s. That should alarm all of us,"
 
says Mark Sutton, Chairman & CEO, International Paper Company.

"It's more important than ever for the U.S. supply chain network to keep pace so that we can compete to win in the global economy. The Business Roundtable has developed a path forward for policymakers in Back in Business: A Policy Blueprint for Renewing America's Infrastructure and we encourage Congressional action on their recommendations."
