Immigrant entrepreneurs have long been an important part of America's economic success story. Some of the largest and most recognizable American companies were founded by immigrants or the children of immigrants, including household names such as Apple and Costco, as well as newcomers to the Fortune 500 list like Broadcom and Intuit. Even Levi's was created by two immigrants, Levi Strauss from Germany and Jacob Davis from Latvia, who invented that now iconic staple of the American wardrobe - blue jeans.

Julie Sweet will become the new chief executive of Accenture, the consulting firm announced on Thursday, adding another female leader to the senior-most ranks of the corporate world. With Ms. Sweet's appointment, 27 women will be leading companies in the S&P 500. That figure is up slightly from a year ago, but still means that just slightly more than 5 percent of the most valuable public companies in the United States are led by women.

Business Roundtable released "Reducing Regulatory Overlap in the 21st Century," a report on the harmful economic effects of overlapping regulation resulting from multiple U.S. regulatory agencies having jurisdiction over a given economic activity. The report details how regulatory overlap increases costs and impedes business activity, provides insight into recent Executive Branch progress in reducing overlap and offers recommendations to inform additional reform efforts by Congress and the Trump Administration.

There has been much hype about smart cities. The Colorado Smart Cities Symposium provides a forum to support and accelerate this hype into action.

This event includes a full day of general session presentations, breakout sessions and workshops designed to enhance collaboration and move innovation forward. The event also features a tech showcase of cutting-edge smart city solutions. Together, we will create the ultimate citizen experience, one partnership at a time.

Of all the major milestones in the continuum of human advancement - mastering fire, inventing the wheel, discovering electricity, harnessing atomic energy, creating the Internet - another that comes to the top of list happened nearly 50 years ago, when astronaut Neil Armstrong stepped down from the Apollo 11 Lunar Module and placed his heavily booted foot on the surface of the Moon. The culmination of almost a decade of fierce effort by some of America's greatest scientific minds, the moon landing fulfilled President John F. Kennedy's ambitious goal for the nation and inspired generations to rethink what's possible.

There's good news and bad news on the U.S. Export-Import Bank (EXIM). The good news is that, thanks to Senate confirmation of several board members in May, the bank is up and running again. The bad news is that its charter will lapse at the end of September. Congress, most notably the House Financial Services Committee, has begun work to reauthorize EXIM. It's vital that legislators move this work forward expeditiously.
