Last week they released their new report called, " Connecting Classrooms to Careers to Shrink Colorado's Skill Gap." This report focuses on the importance of Deeper Learning strategies in closing the skills gap, which occurs when there are more job openings than there are qualified workers to fill those positions.

Several Colorado groups are rallying and joining forces in support of GOP proposals to simplify and reform the nation's tax system, which they see as a drag on both economic growth and a more prosperous middle class.

But for others in the state, advancing certain tax reforms seems problematic, especially when Republicans have offered few concrete details about their proposals.

President Trump visited Springfield, Missouri, and laid out his plans for reforming our nation's outdated, complex and uncompetitive tax system. The president's plan is built around an America-first tax system that is focused on jobs, increasing wages and wealth in America, and restoring the American dream.

The Business Roundtable conducted a survey of their CEOs and 90 percent responded that delaying tax reform will harm the U.S. economy by causing slower economic growth, hiring, and capital investment. Fifty-seven percent of the responding CEOs say delaying tax reform means their company will delay capital spending, the investment that drives jobs and growth. Fifty-six percent say their companies will delay hiring plans.

With a CEO forum, television interviews, and a variety of other activities, Business Roundtable made a concerted push this week for tax reform.

In a panel discussion Wednesday morning, five Business Roundtable CEOs detailed the positive impact that tax reform would have on their companies and employees, capital investment, and the U.S. economy. Moderated by Norah O'Donnell, co-host of CBS This Morning, the forum featured David Abney, UPS; Marillyn Hewson, Lockheed Martin Corporation; Dennis Muilenburg, The Boeing Company; Randall Stephenson, AT&T Inc,; and Mark Weinberger of EY, Chair of BRT's Tax and Fiscal Policy Committee. The event drew extensive media coverage, and BRT has posted video of the panel discussion.

The Business Roundtable CEO Economic Outlook Index - a composite of CEO projections for sales and plans for capital spending and hiring over the next six months - stood at 94.5 for the third quarter of 2017, edging up from 93.3 in the second quarter.

For the second quarter in a row, the Index reached its highest level since the second quarter of 2014 (95.4). the Index has also significantly exceeded its historical average of 80.3 for three quarters in a row and remains well above 50, suggesting CEO's continued confidence in the U.S. economy.

A group of U.S. business executives called for Congress to cut the corporate tax rate as low as possible and end the current global approach in which companies' profits are taxed no matter where they're earned.

"We see this as a big enabler," said Dennis Muilenberg, chief executive officer of Boeing Co. "It will unleash our ability to grow jobs."
