We continue our STEM Series with a focus on reaching kids and developing their interest in science, technology, engineering and math at an early age, and keeping them excited as they choose a career path.
STEM Scouts is a new program, developed by the Boy Scouts to reach girls and boys in elementary, middle and high school. The program features four to six week learning modules including hands on lab experiments in forensics, robotics, circuitry, chemistry and more.
Courtney McNabb, STEM Scouts Executive is executing the pilot program for the Denver Area Council. Tune in to hear how you can get a program in your school, sponsor a program for a low-income area school or volunteer to teach a lab.
STEM Scouts is making STEM education accessible, particularly in Title I targeted schools, by coordinating with STEM professionals to help teach the labs. This gives the students a real-life role model and examples of cool careers to which they may not otherwise be exposed.
Learn more about STEM Scouts by listening to our show, and go to STEMSScouts.org to learn how to get involved, about their mobile lab, and about Colorado Adventure Point where kids can play and learn for days.
Our Brave Leader this week is Colorado Senate Majority Leader, Mark Scheffel. Join us for a conversation straight from his Senate office at the Colorado State Capitol.
Senator Scheffel has been an advocate for the business community, particularly in the area of business and personal property tax reform. He also tackled the regulation of telecommunication services while also enacting the "Telecommunications Modernizationn Act of 2012".
We will also discuss his knack for bipartisan collaborations, and his position as Majority Leader.
