LEADERSHIP. REACH. RESULTS.
October 17, 2017
Colorado's two U.S. Senators on Tuesday said they've both signed a letter opposing the imposition of tariffs on imported solar power panels.

But they disagreed on the Trump administration's move Tuesday to roll back the Clean Power Plan, one of President Barack Obama's signature pieces of legislation on the environment.

The current tax code has grown out of control in length and complexity - forcing many Americans to rely on professional help to file even the simplest return.

It also makes our businesses uncompetitive as other nations provide lower tax rates, and incentivizes American businesses to move their headquarters or utilize offshore jobs. The U.S. has the highest corporate tax rate among the 35 advanced economies in the world. This is unacceptable.

President Donald J. Trump is working to reform our tax system so that Americans are treated fairly, can keep more of their hard-earned money, and companies can bring jobs back to the United States.

"We believe every-day Americans know better how to spend their own money than the federal bureaucracy, and we want to help them keep as much of that hard-earned money as we can." - President Donald J. Trump

With the Senate looking toward what's next on health care reform and open enrollment looming, one issue picking up bipartisan support is delaying the health insurance tax for 2018. Delaying the tax would be an immediate action Congress could take to lower premiums. In fact, if a delay of this tax is passed soon, individuals, employers and seniors could see premiums lowered by as much as 3 percent next year.

Colorado's Financial Services Talent Imperative Roundtable on October 13th
Colorado's top insurance regulator responded on Thursday to President Donald Trump's health care executive order with concern, saying the policies endorsed could lead to flimsier coverage in the state and much higher costs for the sick.

"The limited benefits, the focus on the healthy at the expense of those with pre-existing conditions, and lack of regulatory oversight will cause problems for the health insurance market as a whole," said Marguerite Salazar, the state's insurance commissioner.

The Colorado Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will launch a statewide Cyber Security program in October 2017. This program will ensure that small businesses throughout the state have access to relevant and up-to-date education and free one-on-one consulting on how to best protect their assets and investments. Forty-three percent of small businesses owners fall victim to a cyber attack. The SBDC aims to help small businesses protect themselves from these unforeseen threats which can potentially cripple their business and livelihood. Consulting and classes will range from cloud computing to securing technology in order to meet government procurement and compliance standards.

President Donald Trump plans to cut off subsidy payments to insurers selling Obamacare coverage in his most aggressive move yet to undermine his predecessor's health care law.

The subsidies, which are worth an estimated $7 billion this year and are paid out in monthly installments, may stop almost immediately, since Congress hasn't appropriated funding for the program.

It is important that all Americans understand that tax reform will drive growth that benefits everyone. While nobody is going to get everything that they want in a policy debate, it is time for companies and Congress to set parochial and partisan interests aside to find a way to pass tax reform. Let's judge any proposal on whether or not it will result in greater economic growth, more jobs and higher wages while allowing American businesses to be competitive internationally. If so, let's get it done.
