Business Roundtable: Avoid Tariffs, Use Comprehensive Approach Toward China Trade
Business Roundtable on Thursday issued a statement criticizing the President's directive to the U.S. Trade Representative that is consider imposing up to $60 billion of tariffs on Chinese goods, calling instead for a comprehensive approach to address China's unfair trade practices. "Unilaterally imposing tariffs or other restrictions without a long-term strategy to bring about reforms in China will only raise prices in America, make American companies and products less competitive, and harm U.S. workers and consumers, "the statement read. Business Roundtable urged the Administration to instead pursue an approach based on working with international partners to identify unfair trade practices that China must end, setting deadlines for such reforms, and outlining U.S. actions if those reforms are not undertaken. In a statement Wednesday, President & CEO Joshua Bolten asked Congress to examine the Administration's trade strategy in light of the President's request to extend Trade Promotion Authority.

The CWDC has released its 2017 Colorado Talent Pipeline Report, offering an examination of issues related to the supply and demand of talent in Colorado and strategies for strengthening the state's talent pipeline.

The report focuses on high-demand, high-growth jobs, that pay a good wage in two earnings tiers: one including jobs meeting a living wage for a family of three with one working adult, and a second including jobs meeting a living wage for an individual. The report also explores areas of untapped talent in Colorado.

Europa, Earth Science, and a new Mobile Launcher are highlights in the $20.7 billion appropriation for NASA. Last month, Congress reached a broad budget deal that lifted self-imposed spending caps - the "sequester" - for the next two years. Yesterday, we saw the fruit of that deal with the release of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2018, a bill that would fund nearly all government agencies through the remainder of this fiscal year. NASA and science in general did very well in this legislation. Congress thoroughly rejected every major cut proposed to NASA and other science agencies by the Trump Administration, often providing them with funding increases instead. This is arguably the best budget for national science investment in a decade.

Mayor Michael Hancock and several business leaders announced the creation of a new Business Improvement District (BID) revolving loan fund to provide funding for the final organizational costs of emerging BIDS.

A BID is a group of commercial property owners that make a collective contribution to the maintenance and development of their commercial area through an additional property tax or fee.

"Our travels beyond the Earth propel scientific discoveries that improve our lives in countless ways here, right here, at home: powering vast new industry, spurring incredible new technology, and providing the space security we need to protect the American people."
