LEADERSHIP. REACH. RESULTS.
January 29, 2019
Business Roundtable released "Innovation Nation: An American Innovation Agenda for 2020," a set of policy recommendations to secure U.S. leadership in innovation, maintain a robust U.S. economy and increase living standards for all Americans through 2020 and beyond. Innovation Nation - a cross-cutting policy agenda - provides a roadmap for the U.S. to effectively continue to compete for and win the global race for innovation to secure inclusive economic growth and opportunity for Americans. In a rapidly changing world, the U.S. must reaffirm its commitment to innovation and how American workers across all sectors can succeed in a future economy.

Please join Colorado Business Roundtable for the State of Higher Education Forum on April 11th, 2019 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at History Colorado.

Join us as we hear from leaders in the higher education industry discuss their successful business partnerships, changes that need to happen in order to be more nimble and agile, how higher education is meeting the needs of the industry, and what is the value proposition for students.

Bruce Benson will share his reflections and lessons learned from his distinguished tenure as President of University of Colorado. The panel will include Chancellor Rebecca Chopp of University of Denver, President Janine Davidson of Metropolitan State University Denver, and President Joe Garcia of Colorado Community College System. We have invited Colorado's Department of Higher Education to speak as well.

Colorado business leaders are looking to find common ground with the state's new governor and Democrat-dominated legislature, even amid lingering concerns about future spending priorities and regulatory policies. Democratic Gov. Jared Polis released his 2019-2020 budget request last week, which includes funding for statewide full-day kindergarten, health care reforms such as reducing prescription drug prices, more inspectors to monitor the oil and gas industry and additional money for Colorado's rainy-day fund. At the same time, legislative leaders have expressed support for increased funds for public education and policies to deal with climate change and transportation projects.

Through the nationally recognized Citizens' Academy, participants learn from local experts and leaders, network with other residents and act on what they've learned. Since 2007, more than 800 residents from around the region have completed the academy. It is a great opportunity for emerging leaders interested in learning more about regional issues and developing their civic capacity.

Topics covered will include transportation, economic vitality, housing, civic engagement and more. Each session of the course will consist of lectures from subject matter experts, small group interactions and networking. Beyond the group sessions, participants will develop individual action plans to put into place upon completing the academy. Formerly run by the Transit Alliance, the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG), took over the program in 2018.

If you are interested in increasing your knowledge of regional issues and enhancing your civic leadership skills, DRCOG will be accepting applications for the spring 2019 session from February 1 until March 8. The free seven-week academy will be held from April 4 - May 16.
