Frannie Matthews, Sales Leader - Public Sector West, Senior Location Executive, IBM Corporation

Inner Circle Q&A

What book have you given or recommended the most?
Deep Work, By Cal Newport. The complexity of our world makes it challenging to step back and work in a distraction-free way. This book has changed how I manage my life. Everyday, I carve out "unplugged time", so I can think and create.

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
There are a few "one day jobs" that would be of interest if I miraculously had the talent to do them well. I think being a singer would be at the top of the list. I can picture myself belting out "I Did It My Way." Yes, that would be a lot of fun.

How would you describe your leadership style?
Collaborative and enthusiastic. I love to work with teams to build and execute against a plan. There is no greater joy than helping others stretch to be successful.

What are some industry trends that have an impact on your role as a leader?
Hands down, it's the speed at which technology is advancing. It's exciting, but also a little unnerving. We have to question our assumptions everyday. I know this for sure, successful individuals and enterprises will be those who embrace the change and leverage technology to be more nimble and responsive.
