LEADERSHIP. REACH. RESULTS.
August 7, 2018

Colorado Business Roundtable is excited to share this testimonial video from Lockheed Martin, a Business Roundtable company and COBRT partner. Joe Rice and Lockheed Martin really speak to the value of COBRT's role in supporting not only Lockheed Martin, but all industries within Colorado. Sound public policy will drive meaningful and impactful legislation to help Colorado's business ecosystem continue to thrive. We are thankful to Lockheed Martin and our other partners for their support and look forward to working with all of you to ensure Colorado remains open for business. We will be sharing addition videos over the course of this year. Be sure to sign up for our upcoming View From The Top event and other COBRT events.

The Denver Business Journal and Colorado Business Roundtable are pleased to present A View From The Top CEO Panel Luncheon. Join Steven Demetriou, CEO of Jacobs Engineering; Hikmet Ersek, CEO of Western Union; and Denny Marie Post, CEO of Red Robin as they discuss challenges and opportunities they face in leading fortune companies.

This year's event will be Monday, August 20th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at CU South Denver.

With days to go before signatures are due for initiatives meant to appear on Colorado's 2018 statement ballot, uncertainty reigns both in regard to the number of citizen questions that could end up in front of voters and to their potential effect on the election - and on each other. Business leaders have most actively been discussing the potential effects of a trio of measures focused on oil-and-gas regulation and a pair of initiatives that could raise funds for transportation. But the ballot could include other proposals, including dueling propositions to clamp down on payday lenders in differing ways and another measure that would raise corporate income taxes to fund education. And the Legislature already has referred six measures to the ballot, including a pair that would attempt to make redistricting a more nonpartisan process.

A few thousand workers and supporters from the Colorado oil and gas industry rallied at the state Capitol Thursday, celebrating what the industry has accomplished and pushing back against criticism of drilling. Denver-based Liberty Oilfield Services spearheaded the event, which drew an estimated 3,500 people.

Business Roundtable on Thursday released proposed reforms meant to overcome China's harmful trade and investment practices, resolving the growing U.S. trade disputes with the country. "The administration's tactics have lacked a clear and consistent path toward achieving a reasonable negotiating outcome," Business Roundtable President & CEO Joshua Bolten told The Wall Street Journal in an interview (subscription). "We want to contribute ideas to what a negotiating outcome would look like." The proposed reforms focus on increased market access; nondiscriminatory treatment in the application of Chinese laws, regulations, and policies; protections against intellectual property theft and technology transfer; curbing of competition-distorting subsidies; and liberalized trade in the digital economy.
Business Roundtable commended the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) this week for its planned improvements to the Automated Indicator Sharing program, which enables real-time sharing of cyber threat information between industry and government. "These improvements will bolster security and resilience against cyber threats by strengthening our public-private partnership," said Julie Sweet, North American CEO of Accenture and Chair of the Technology Committee, in a statement

Regional Regulatory Reform Roundtables - Colorado
The SBA Office of Advocacy is an independent office that serves as a voice for small business within the federal government, the watchdog for the Regulatory Flexibility Act (RFA) and the source of small business statistics. Advocacy advances the views and concerns of small business before Congress, the White House, federal agencies, federal courts, and state policy makers.
President Donald J. Trump has made regulatory reform a centerpiece of his agenda and has signed two executive orders addressing the regulatory burden faced by the private sector. To assist in accomplishing the goals of the executive orders, the office has developed a Regulatory Reform Action Plan.

As part of this plan, Advocacy is hosting Regional Regulatory Reform Roundtables across the country in an effort to hear directly from small businesses about what regulations concern them the most. This is an opportunity for small business owners and stakeholders to meet in-person with Advocacy senior staff. These roundtables are free and open to the public.

The upcoming roundtable is Thursday, August 9th from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Colorado Springs Marriott in Colorado Springs, CO.

In mid-July, twenty teams of high school students from across Greater Omaha gathered at Buildertrend for the Future Builders Challenge. Selected from a larger group who took the Gallup Builder Profile (BP) 10 entrepreneurial talent assessment, the teams worked with coaches to develop business ideas and pitch them to a group of judges.
