Grow Together with COBRT
LEADERSHIP. REACH. RESULTS.
June 25, 2019
Hosted by Metro State University President, Janine Davidson, we would like to invite you to join us June 28th from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at St. Cajetans on MSU Denver's campus to discuss the Colorado Compact. We will be hearing from Keynote Speaker Senator Michael Bennet followed by a panel of key industry representatives.

We have a great opportunity to show that Colorado is above partisan politics and set the tone nationally by supporting the principles the business community stood behind when the Colorado Compact was first released in 2012. This year, we are working with New American Economy in coordination with Colorado Business Roundtable on the Colorado Compact expansion. New American Economy is a bipartisan coalition of business and political leaders from all 50 states who believe that immigration is critical to our country's ability to grow and compete in a global economy. The Colorado Business Roundtable COBRT, the state affiliate of the National Business Roundtable (BRT), is the premier advocate for proactive, pro-business legislation that strengthens the economy and allows businesses to grow and thrive in Colorado and the region.

Mexico's Senate voted overwhelmingly in favor of approving the U.S.-Mexico-Canada agreement on trade, a deal that would replace the North American Free Trade Agreement. The measure passed with a 114-4 vote, bringing the agreement one step closer to fruition. Mexican President Andres Manual Lopez Obrador convened a special legislative session to hold the vote after the Senate convened in April.

Improving price and quality transparency: President Donald J. Trump is delivering on his promise to bring more healthcare price and quality transparency for American patients.
  • President Trump is signing an Executive Order that directs his Administration to take steps to improve price and quality transparency in healthcare.
  • The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will require hospitals to publicly disclose amounts that reflect what people actually pay for services in an easy-to-read format.
  • At President Trump's direction, HHS will begin the process of making information on out-of-pocket spending more readily available to patients before they recieve care.
  • Researchers, innovators, and providers will get more access to data that will help them develop tools to provide patients with more information about healthcare prices and quality.
  • The Administration will improve quality measurements and make them public.
  • The President's order also improves consumers' incentives to shop for care by expanding the benefit of Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and other tax-preferred health accounts.

Lynn Granger counts herself as a Democrat and an environmentalist, which means she's had to explain a lot about her new job to friends lately. The Colorado Petroleum Council hired Granger, a career communications professional, in May to run the oil and gas industry group after the founding executive director departed to run an oil-industry backed organization in Texas.

Settling into running the Colorado division of the American Petroleum Institute, Granger draws on her background in strategic communications. She sees a public that is largely unaware of oil and gas' day-to-day work operating cleanly and safely, and the fact oil and gas, beyond fueling people's cars, is the source of key materials for 600 products ranging from consumer goods to medical devices.

DENVER - The Office of State Planning and Budgeting (OSPB) today released the June forecast showing stronger than expected revenue growth. Strong wage growth is driving continued consumer spending, sustaining our economic expansion. However, trade conflicts pose a risk to Colorado's economy, as recently proposed escalations could result in higher prices for domestic consumers and fewer export markets for farmers and manufacturers.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Christopher Guith, Acting President of the U.S. Chamber's Global Energy Institute, issued the following statement regarding today's finalization of EPA's Affordable Clean Energy (ACE) rule on power plants, which replaces the previous administration's Clean Power Plan:

"The ACE rule will help continue the trend of declining electric power sector emissions while preserving America's energy leadership and respecting the law. We commend the Administration not only for its efforts to replace the unlawful Clean Power Plan with a regulatory framework for addressing greenhouse gas emissions from the power sector, but also for doing so by engaging with all stakeholders in a thorough and collaborative process. While we will thoroughly review the final text, we are particularly pleased that the final ACE rule establishes guidelines emphasizing cooperation with states and encouraging the deployment of innovative technologies and practices to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from existing power plants in a manner that is practical, achievable, and consistent with the Clean Air Act.

The Chamber believes that the global climate is changing and that human activities contribute to those changes. Inaction on climate change is not an option, and policies to address it must be practical, flexible, predictable and durable. If consistent with these criteria, the ACE rule represents an important step by the Administration, working with states, and the private sector to lower greenhouse gas emissions. "

Business leaders from the United States, Canada and Mexico met today in Washington to discuss the importance of swiftly ratifying and implementing the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and further strengthening North American economic relations. Tom Linebarger, Chairman and CEO of Cummins Inc. and Chair of the Business Roundtable Trade and International Committee, hosted the meeting in partnership with Don Lindsay, President and CEO of Teck Resources Limited and Chair of the Business Council of Canada, and Blanca Trevino, President and CEO of Softtek and Vice Chair of the Consejo Mexicano de Negocios.
