A divided Federal Reserve on Wednesday announced it is cutting interest rates for the first time in more than a decade, as a slowdown in global growth and the fallout from President Donald Trump's trade wars cloud an otherwise solid U.S. economy. The Fed lowered rates by one-quarter of a percentage point, in a move that meets market expectations but drew a quick rebuke from Trump, who has relentlessly pressed the central bank to aggressively slash rates as his reelection campaign gets under way. Fed Chairman Jerome Powell has doggedly insisted that the central bank is not influenced by political interference.

U.S. Senators Tom Carper (D-Del.), John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Ben Cardin (D-Md.) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.V.) will introduce America's Transportation Infrastructure Act of 2019, the largest highway legislation in history. The bill authorizes $287 billion over five years, including $259 billion for formula programs to maintain and repair America's roads and bridges. The total represents an increase of over 27 percent from FAST Act levels. The legislation includes provisions to improve road safety, streamline project delivery, protect the environment and grow the economy. The committee leaders agree the legislation will be paid for.

They began arriving in Denver in early June, coming in groups of 40 to 80 people per week. Some made the journey westward from Greensboro, North Caroline. The majority of them are fleeing the Bay Area - specifically Alameda, California. By the end of August, most of the roughly 400 employees that VF Corporation is relocating to Denver will be here as the apparel giant and Fortune 260 company moves its headquarters from the East Coast to the Mile High City and consolidates its five outdoor brands - The North Face, JanSport, Smartwool, Altra and Eagle Creek - under one roof. They will occupy "Camp VF," five floors of temporary space in the Great-West Life building in the Denver Tech Center, until the spring of 2020, when they will take over all 10 floors of 1551 Wewatta St. in Lower Downtown once building renovations are completed.

Colorado oil and gas regulators have approved the first set of industry rules under a new law that makes protecting public health and the enviornment the state's top priority. The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission on Wednesday put in place tougher requirements for "forced pooling," a practice that allows an energy company to extract oil and gas owned by multiple parties and then distribute the profits among them. The commission also approved a provision that allows administrative law judges and hearing officers to handle some decisions so the commissioners can focus on the writing the new rules.
