Lockheed Martin Space won a $405.8 million contract Tuesday to develop and build motors and other parts for demonstration "hypersonic" missiles for the U.S. Army. The award, made public Tuesday, adds to the work that the Jefferson County-based company, a 14,000-employee division of Bethesda, Maryland-based Lockheed Martin Corp, is already doing for the U.S. military on a new kind of conventional ballistic missile that flies several times faster than the speed of sound and could quickly strike a distant target.

They're referring to a federal program that looks to spur economic development in America's underserved neighborhoods known forevermore as "opportunity zones."

The special-session talks around the upcoming Proposition CC ballot measure that collapsed this week centered around an income-tax cut that some Republicans were offering as a potential counterweight to the proposal, giving hope to proponents of the tax cut that the idea could be discussed in an increasingly serious way in 2020.

In a letter to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, Business Roundtable expressed concern that implementation of the Global Intangible Low-Taxed Income (GILTI) provision in the 2017 tax law could impose additional taxes on U.S. companies already subject to high rates of foreign tax. The letter from President & CEO Joshua Bolten urged Treasury to further refine the proposed GILTI high-tax exclusion and expand relief from the negative effects of expense allocation.
