Chancellor Philip P. DiStefano joined the presidents and chancellors from the University of Denver, Colorado State University and Metropolitan State University at the State of Higher Education Forum. With approximately 150 people in attendance representing business, government and the broader Colorado community, the panelists explored topics such as successful business partnerships; changes that need to happen in order for higher education to be more relevant, nimbler and agile; how higher education is meeting the needs of the industry, and what is the value proposition for today's students.

Denver is attracting highly skilled labor at the fastest rate in the country, according to a new study. Business Roundtable Welcomes Plan To Speed Infrastructure Permitting
A new Administration plan to expedite reviews of major infrastructure projects will improve U.S. competitiveness and economic growth, Business Roundtable said in a statement Monday following the announcement of the One Federal Decision Memorandum of Understanding. Under the plan, a single federal agency will shepherd an infrastructure project through the review process, setting a two-year goal of approving its permit. "While much work remains to revitalize our nation's aging infrastructure, this is a vital step forward in accelerating long-overdue infrastructure improvements throughout the country," said Mike Burke, Chairman and CEO of AECOM and Chair of the Business Roundtable Infrastructure Committee. Mark Costa, Chairman and CEO of Eastman and Chair of the Business Roundtable Smart Regulation Committee, said the plan would help overcome "onerous permitting processes and lengthy reviews" that have stymied infrastructure investment. The Administration prominently cited the CEO statements on its website.
Special Report: How Innovations Are Redefining Health Care
Colorado health systems are investing unprecedented amounts of money in new facilities, and no small amount of that spending is going toward new equipment. The machines and devices being rolled out by hospitals and physicians are using technology to change major surgeries, ongoing studies, sleep disorder and more.

And why not? As Taylor notes, manufacturing in Colorado has "arrived". According to a recent analysis cited at the event, Colorado's "direct Industry activity supports a total of 441,000 jobs in the state, and contributes approximately $47 billion in state GDP."
